Systems Engineer II (Imaging) 

Franklin American Mortgage is looking for an experienced, professional individual to join our Information Technology team. The Imaging Engineer will help define architecture of new solutions and manage/maintain existing production systems. The Engineering team works closely with an Operations team and equips them with uptime alerts, knowledge of all imaging systems through the production and documentation.

The team currently supports Ubuntu Linux and Windows operating systems, and the Imaging Engineer should be versatile with his experience in technology. This position will configure and manage the Linux/Windows operating system but also manage the underlying infrastructure, as required. Experience with Imaging technologies in an open source as well as experience with Vendor based Imaging technologies is highly desirable.

We seek an Engineer that can thrive in a fast-paced environment. This person will aid in the design, deployment, analysis/troubleshooting and maintenance of Imaging environments (primarily). The person should have experience in architecture/design methodologies and while also being aware of open source and commercial solutions. This is a critical aspect of success in the FAMC technical environment; we adopt first stable solutions but also include open sources systems as part of our evaluation cycles and do deploy them in certain capacities.

The ideal candidate is conscious of impact to end users and takes necessary precautions both architecturally and operationally to ensure that impact is minimized. They must understand the importance of change control processes and root cause analysis as we work to ensure the environment is stable and reliable.



  • Manage multiple Linux/Windows environments through capacity management, problem management and overall operational stability of solutions hosted by the systems that host internal and vendor-based Imaging/OCR based software.
  • Code/Script file movement scripts using Perl, Bash and Python, as well as maintain/upgrade more advanced Perl using Ghostscript/lmagemagik.
  • Work with vendors and internal personnel on upgrades and technical issues surrounding any imaging environment.
  • Work as part of a team to design, code, and document changes to imaging systems as well as help the Operations team monitor and escalate issues.


  • Intermediate Linux knowledge, 2 - 4 years of experience in dealing with Ubuntu, Debian or other Linux distributions required.
  • Knowledge of Linux file systems and permissions structures.
  • Intermediate Windows knowledge, 2-4 years of experience in dealing with Windows Server and IIS.
  • Ability to manipulate basic SQL queries to get information.
  • General scripting skills is required, primarily Perl. The candidate must show ability and desire to learn and execute all job functions around this technology stack.
  • Understands the importance of change control processes and root cause analysis to ensure environment is stable and reliable.
  • Manage multiple requests with competing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Desired Skills:

  • Basic PHP, MYSQL, SQL Knowledge.
  • Understanding Basic Imaging Tools (Ghostscript, Imagemagik, Kofax, Bar Codes, Trinisys).
  • Basic Understanding of Nagios Monitoring.
  • Basic Understanding of content management such as OnBase.
  • Basic Understanding of repository management such as Stash / Bamboo / Git.
