System Engineer II (Windows/VMWare)


Franklin American Mortgage is looking for an experienced, professional individual to join our IT Department. The System Engineer II will collaborate with others in the Operations team and work to define architecture of new solutions and manage/maintain existing production systems.



  • Provisioning guests, IP and network configurations, installation and configuration of new VM hosts, migration of guests from cluster to cluster, and high availability capabilities of VMware.
  • Manage and Maintain Windows Server environments through capacity management, problem management. Configure and manage Active Directory according to industry best practices
  • Monitor and maintain NetApp Storage Arrays.
  • Interact with development teams as needed.
  • Monitor and analyze trends in systems to identify issues before they create an impact to the production environment.
  • Aid in the design, deployment, analysis/troubleshooting, and maintenance of our Ubuntu Linux environment
  • Other duties as reasonably assigned.



  • Bachelor degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • 3 5+ years install / configure / manage VMWare in an Enterprise environment
  • 3 5+ years install / configure / manage Windows Server and Active directory
  • Strong knowledge of integrating Linux systems in an Active Directory Environment
  • Experience with SAN storage management. NetApp experience preferred but not required
  • Understanding of Security best practices in a mixed environment
  • Basic scripting skills: PowerShell. Bash, Perl, Python
  • Experience with Enterprise/Commerce management including: deploying monitoring, and alerting
  • Experience with building Highly available systems: Load balanced, Active-Active/Passive, Stateful apps
  • Experience running cloud servers and managing them via an API
  • Advanced understanding of Virtual Networking including Distributed Switching
  • Experience with automation tools sunch asa Chef, Ansible, and Puppet
  • Experience managing High Availability features such as failover, vMotion, storage vMotion
  • Experience with data: Mysql, memcache, dynamodb, MSSQL
  • Understanding of physical networking and firewall configuration and management
  • Excellent basic programming skills, with advanced experience preferred
  • In-depth use of Ubuntu/Debian with a strong understanding of apt, common locations, and packages
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment and individually
  • Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with low tolerance for error
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities based on business demands
  • Professional dress and demeanor
