Software Development Manager


Overview: Franklin American Mortgage is looking for an experienced, professional individual to join our IT department. This position provides strategic management direction for software development and manages a large team of developers and their projects through completion; analyzes, designs and develops software enhancements and new modules; manage development projects from initial design through testing or intake projects from Innovation teams for completion.


Duties Include:

  • Manages and directs large team of software developers. Evaluates employee performance, sets expectations and goals for department and individual staff members, recruits, disciplines and trains staff.
  • Manage Resource planning and forecasting. Align resource capacity to demand and manage accordingly. Tracks and reports on project and work assignments are fulfilled on time. Be the voice of the team to the business and the business to your team. Identify resource conflicts and resolve.
  • Ensure sufficient processes and tools are in place to meet the demand for software development. Makes sure all team and department processes are followed and adjusted as necessary.
  • Consult with Product Owners, Architects, Engineers and Support teams to identify business needs and include into project objectives. Aligns business demand with product roadmap and adherence to standards.

What we need from you:

  • 8+ years on hands-on IT development experience
  • 5+ years of IT management experience leading teams of 15 or more
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent area.
  • Experience establishing test driven development and automated testing
  • Must possess excellent management and written/verbal communication skills
  • Possess strong organizational skills
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving skills and communicate decisions diplomatically
  • Proficiency in server-side enterprise java. Includes but not limited to JSPs, servlets, Spring, Hibernate and JDBC.
  • Must be able to lead by example, motivate people and manage change.
  • Handle multiple projects and deadlines effectively and efficiently.
  • Prefer a fast paced work environment
  • Confidence and ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and a variety of audiences (technical and non-technical)
  • Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

  • Must demonstrate commitment, dependability and respect for other employees with regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to agreed-upon schedule
